MSIP 5 Reporting Update for 2018-19 School Year

(October 5, 2018) -- The fifth version of the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP 5) has modified the calculation method for "Performance Standard 4: Attendance Rate" beginning with the 2018-19 school year. This is the first change to the state-wide attendance calculation method since the introduction of the proportional attendance rate metric at the start of the 2013-14 school year.

MSIP 5 defines Performance Standard 4: Attendance Rate as
“The district ensures all students regularly attend school. The percent of students who regularly attend school meets or exceeds the state standard or demonstrates required improvement. Attendance targets use the individual student’s attendance rate and set the expectation that 90 percent of the students are in attendance 90 percent of the time.”

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has announced that beginning in August 2018, students with 85 percent attendance or greater will be proportionally weighted 0.25, and 87.5 percent attendance or greater will be proportionally weighted 0.5. Students with 90 percent attendance or greater continue to count proportionally as 1.0.

Due to the change of Performance Standard 4 calculation and reporting, all further proportional attendance reports from the St. Joseph School District will be generated using the new proportional attendance calculation formula.
